Volunteer Board Secretary – Birthright Canterbury
Support our mission to empower one-parent families across Canterbury.

Birthright Canterbury is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Secretary to join our Board of Trustees. This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute your organisational skills to a cause that supports and uplifts one-parent families in our community.

📌 Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and circulate meeting agendas ahead of time
  • Attend board m🛠️ Ideal Skills & Attributes
  • Excellent written communication and a professional tone
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meetings (monthly) and take accurate minutes
  • Maintain clear records of board decisions and action points
  • Coordinate meeting schedules and assist with logistical planning
  • Ensure board communications are timely and well-documented

This is a voluntary role, but one that offers meaningful engagement, the chance to gain nonprofit governance experience, and the satisfaction of helping support families in your own backyard.

Requirements:

🛠️ Ideal Skills & Attributes

  • Excellent written communication and a professional tone
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of basic office tools (e.g. Google Workspace or Microsoft Word)
  • Previous governance or minute-taking experience is a plus
  • A collaborative, respectful team approach and commitment to our kaupapa (purpose)
Time commitment:

⏳ Time Commitment
Approximately 5–8 hours per month. Face to Face Board meetings are held in Rolleston bi-monthly, with teams meetings held in alternate months, hybrid participation may be possible.
