The Bridge South Brighton Trust (TBSBT) is a charitable trust formed by local volunteers to convert an 'as-is-where-is' former church into a community centre (The Hub) following the Christchurch earthquake.
Our vision is to increase well-being and connection within the community and to create a vibrant centre where the community gather. The rebuild is almost completed and includes facilities for a café, health/ wellness/ educational services, community spaces and private hiring.
The Hub is one of the few community centres in NZ which is wholly owned and run by a community trust. As we move into employing staff to run the facility and the café, the Board will be transitioning from managing and being hands on to focusing on governance. Up until now and into the short term, we have been relying on external funding. The next stage will be to generate our own income to ensure a sustainable, self-funding community resource.
The ideal person would have sound financial literacy (preferably an accounting background) and be excited by the vision of TBSBT, as well as being part of a brand new venture for the South Brighton community.
Governance experience is helpful but not critical.
The estimated time commitment required as the Treasurer is 2 - 4 hours per week (some flexibility may be required).
