Support the tutor by assisting some of her learners. Volunteers will work mostly one on one with adult refugee learners by assisting them with class activities under the guidance of the tutor. Learners are working towards gaining some very basic computer skills and improve their English language skills., which are also very basic. You need lots of patience as the pace of learning is very slow and the learners need to repeat things many times and do not always recall what they learned last week.
We offer an annual training session, annual volunteers lunch, enjoyment and satisfaction of helping others, free parking on school grounds.
Clear English language skills, lots of patience, listening skills, compassion, sensitivity, very basic computer skills and some ability to teach others would help, but is not necessary.
1-3pm Thursday afternoons at Hagley college satellite campus, Champion Street.
