E mihi ana ki a koutou katoa
Ko Avon-Ōtākaro Forest Park te kaupapa
Nō reira, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou, tēnā tātou katoa
We are Avon-Ōtākaro Forest Park and we are a local rōpū, or group, passionate about our taiao, our environment and passionate about native plant regeneration in Ōtautahi, Canterbury.
We have 12 sites we maintain. We aim to have at least two working bees a month and activities vary depending on the season. We work within the Ōtākaro Avon River Corridor, in areas which have a high density of native plants. We also look after two CCC council parks and within these two sites, sometimes we are allowed to plant native species.
Typically, our Working Bees are during the mornings on a weekend day for approximately 2 to 3 hours, alongside our Committee Members and the community! As it is currently Takurua, or Winter, we are in the midst of planting season!! These can be fun days for the family, and we welcome children of all ages, attending with their parents or caregivers.
Assisting with the natural regeneration of native trees and shrubs over time is very rewarding work. Our rōpū are very fortunate to be able to see the fruits of our labour, 5 years in! We encourage you to focus on the things that are important for our hauora, or health - fresh air, exercise, time in nature, and strong community relationships are all incredibly important for our oranga, or wellbeing.
You are always welcome to join us and be part of our amazing environmental work! Everyone is welcome! Bring your family and friends - we are a child-friendly rōpū.
Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou katoa!
