A typical Polite ‘patrols’ for around 1-1.5 hours each shift which involve walking in and around the city centre, offering unexpected greetings, helping with directions, all in the name of fun while having positive social interactions with strangers. With our further funding through Christchurch City Council Crime Prevention team, we have a strong focus on our rough sleepers population around Christchurch, ensuring they have a friendly and familiar presence out on the streets.
You will be given the training provided with an experienced Polite Officer as well as a uniform on the days of your patrol.
A typical Polite ‘patrols’ for around 1-1.5 hours each shift. Shifts are flexible around your availability and willingness to be out on varying times. You will be patrolling with another Polite Officer at most times, however, have the option to go out solo if you wish to.
Currently looking for volunteers from the end of July through to end of September with the possibility of extending. You will be required at a minimum approximately two hours / week (one shift) at a time that suits you and others in the Polite Force. If you are available for more than one shift, that is also fantastic and your availability may vary from week to week. If there is a time/day/week you cannot be available, we are flexible with timings .
