At TechMate we're passionate about helping other people learn more about using digital technology. We have our own site in Addington and we're also active in the community helping out at other groups and organizations.
We need digital technology enthusiasts to join our volunteer team. This year is a very busy one for us as we are expanding the range of services that we offer and the number of communities that we work with.
We're looking for volunteers who can work one-on-one with clients. The client directs these learning sessions by asking the questions that they want answered.
We're also looking for volunteers who are comfortable presenting courses to small groups (we provide the course material).
From time to time we may ask for some help with a specific project or admin task, so some adaptability would be helpful.
Although it is not a requirement it would be great if you had your own car as we do go out into the community (to community centers and the like).
Although we welcome geeks, you don't need to be one to be a good fit for this role. Most of our clients have pretty straightforward needs. If you can use your phone, send an email and have patience, empathy and the ability to work with learners, you have the skills we need.
Shifts are generally 10am-1pm or 1-4pm. We are pretty flexible with times and days
Patience, empathy and the ability to work with learners. Some basic knowledge of digital devices would be helpful.
At least one three hour shift a week
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
Applicants for this role are required to undergo Police vetting.
You can find out more about this process on the Police website:
We work with vulnerable people and communities so we are required by policy and our external stakeholders to vet people.
