Museum Board Member

Organisation:
Okains Bay Museum
Location:
Banks Peninsula
Category:
Committee & Board
Hours:
Evenings/Weekends

The Okains Bay Māori and Colonial Museum Trust are looking for two new board members with skill and/or experience in one or more of these areas:
fundraising, sponsorship, education, GLAM sector, networking, capital project delivery, heritage management, community liaison, and people management.
New Board Members serve a 1-2-3-year term sequence which allows both the new board member and the current Museum Board to get to know each other without the need to commit long-term from the get-go. In this scenario, a new board member is first eligible for a one-year term, then two, then three.

Requirements:

The following are considered key qualifications for this role:

  • Knowledge of and, ideally, direct experience working in the community and the field in which the Museum operates
  • Commitment to the bicultural nature of Okains Bay Museum and the organisation’s mission and strategic directions
  • Sufficient time to devote to Trust Board duties
  • Openness to learn and willingness to participate in the work of Okains Bay Museum
    This may include:
  • Assisting and attending Museum events
  • Volunteering to help at working bees
  • Attending related community events and meetings
  • Carrying out specific museum-related projects aligned to your skills and experience
Time commitment:

We estimate that new Board Members will contribute 40-60 hours annually to core BoT duties.
Trust Board meetings are held bi-monthly, remotely and/or onsite at the Museum.

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
