Hōhepa Canterbury is a disability support and service provider offering diverse living options, learning & activity programmes, community participation, and therapies – all inspired by anthroposophy.
We have a young Korean man with an intellectual disability living in a flat of four young men in Somerfield. During the day he goes to our day service programme for the people we support, Learning Exploring Activating Potential, with activities such as hiking, swimming, disc golf, music, dance, crafts.
We have noticed when Korean speaking volunteers have interacted with him speaking Korean, he is much more responsive, as his Korean his first language. It would be great to have someone come and visit him regularly and give him that opportunity to communicate in his first language. Please note that he has limited verbal skills overall but good understanding.
He enjoys doing puzzles and likes listening to music.
A volunteer would come and spend time with him one on one, either at his house or during the day programme activities, onsite at 23 Barrington Street, also at Somerfield. 1-3 hours per week.
