Who we are

The Christchurch City Mission, Te Whare Mīhana Ki Ōtautahi, is a social services agency that helps anyone who needs it regardless of their circumstances. Men’s Day Programme provide every person who attends with warmth and respect and a chance to grow towards wholeness, by offering individual and group programmes and activities in a planned, calm and supportive atmosphere.

About the position

We are looking for a volunteer who is able to communicate with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and demonstrate professional and personal boundaries at all times.

-Assist staff to deliver the programme’s purpose by supporting this safe space and the clients partaking in group activities, wellbeing exercises and having chats and a cuppa with the clients.

-Welcome clients, initiate conversation and ensure they feel heard.

-Assist with kitchen duties, technical/ICT issues, keeping things clean and tidy, and morning tea/lunch as required.

Requirements:

The ideal Volunteer

  • Are not currently receiving or have received Christchurch City Mission services in the past 6 months.
  • Have not experienced drug or alcohol addiction challenges in the past 2 years.
  • Are willing to complete Police Vetting 
  • Non-judgmental attitude
  • Active listening skills, a high level of oral communication skills and high attention to detail
  • Ability to adhere to the ethics and values of the Christchurch City Mission and the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi
  • Ability to work as a member of the team and take instructions from staff

Time commitment:

Full training is provided.
The day programme sessions are Monday to Wednesday, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm. We are looking for volunteers who can commit to one or more of these sessions.
