Treasurer – Oversight governance role

We are looking for a person to join our Board who has relevant experience and/or qualifications for monitoring the financial affairs of our growing charity, and can contribute to the governance of our organisation.

We invite you to enquire for more information if you can answer YES to SOME of these questions about yourself;

  • Have experience reviewing financial records and preparing financial reports;
  • Can provide support to our Accounts Administrator;
  • Comfortable using Xero, Excel and SharePoint (cloud document storage) - or willing to learn;
  • Familiar with payroll processes (we pay 3 part time employees monthly thru ThankYou Payroll);
  • Familiar with developing and monitoring a detailed budget in Excel;
  • Can monitor financial situation and raise cashflow issues well before they occur;
  • Familiar with funding opportunities for charities, and grant accountability requirements;
  • Have been involved in a charity or community health service;
  • Work collaboratively, positively and creatively with a diverse team;
  • Able to participate in other committee matters to improve the services of the organisation;
  • Have ideas for raising awareness of our organisation in the business community.

Additional information:

  • Handover and support for all tasks is available;
  • All systems, apart from limited paper transaction folders, are cloud-based;
  • Community Capability Accounting prepares our Annual Financial Reports, and also our audit.
  • We need you to be available for: completing financial tasks in a timely manner.
  • Fundraising and grant applications are done by other members of our team.

We would be happy to discuss covering costs required for your participation. e.g. child care fees and travel.

Requirements:

PREFERRED: Board experience.
ESSENTIAL:

  • Financial Accounting experience.
  • Meet the qualification requirements for an officer of a charity, as listed on https://www.charities.govt.nz/im-a-registered-charity/officer-information/officer-certification/

A Ministry of Justice background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Estimated at 6 hours per month, for:

  • Attending a monthly Committee meeting and completing necessary pre-reading. Meetings are currently on the second Friday of each month at 10.00 to 12 noon, in Hornby. You are welcome to join by Zoom also.
  • Online communication throughout the month will be required at times.
  • Additional hours required at end of year and for preparation of annual budget.

The Treasurer may elect to get involved in additional projects and tasks.
