“My volunteering journey began with a simple desire to help those who needed care, especially the elderly in my community. After completing my healthcare assistant training, I felt a strong calling to use my skills while gaining more experience. I walked into my first volunteering placement with a mixture of excitement and nervousness, not knowing that this decision would shape my life in such a meaningful way.

As a healthcare volunteer, my role involves supporting elderly patients with daily activities such as feeding, bathing, mobility assistance, and providing companionship. I spend time listening to their stories, encouraging them, and offering comfort when they feel lonely. With every shift, I see how much a kind word or gentle support can brighten someone’s day. Many of the people I help remind me of the value of patience, respect, and compassion.

Volunteering has had a deep impact on my life. It has strengthened my confidence, improved my practical skills, and expanded my understanding of what true service means. Being able to care for others has taught me to be more grateful and humble. It has also shown me that giving my time is just as important as giving physical care.

What I love most about volunteering is the joy and fulfilment it brings. Knowing that I can make someone feel seen, valued, and cared for gives me a sense of purpose. It reminds me why I chose a career in healthcare. Volunteering is not just something I do – it is something that brings meaning to my life and inspires me to continue serving others with love and dedication.”
