Working Hours

At TechMate, we are dedicated to ensuring that no one gets left behind in our digital world. We are seeking a friendly volunteer to join our team in helping community members build confidence with their phones, tablets, and laptops.

What You'll Do:

We are excited to be getting ready for the launch of Technology Support Drop-In Sessions in partnership with our friends at Waimakiri Libraries (tentatively scheduled to start in mid-July).

As a Technology Helper, you will sit alongside individuals who need support with their devices, patiently answering their questions and demonstrating solutions. Whether it's saving contacts, organising files, sending emails, or navigating apps, you will help people stay connected in today’s digital society.

Our approach is always non-threatening and non-judgmental. We meet people where they are and celebrate every small victory.

Location:
Rangiora Library (Thursday from 11 AM to 1 PM). There may be times when we ask you to come into our office in Christchurch, but we will give you plenty of notice, and we can assist with transportation if needed.

Training & Support:
You will be paired with experienced team members, and we hold regular volunteer meetings at our office in Christchurch Central to help us improve our skills.

Impact:
You will meet wonderful people and make a meaningful difference in their digital confidence.

Are you ready to help your community stay connected? We would love to hear from you!

While we welcome applications from everyone, we would prefer applicants from the Waimakiri area for this role.

Requirements:

Key Qualities:

  • Patience and empathy when working with people of all skill levels

  • Able to communicate clearly and without the use of a lot of tech jargon

  • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds

  • Confident with the basics of using devices for essential daily use (online banking, emails, texting)

  • Willingness to share your knowledge in a supportive way

  • Available Thursdays from 11 am - 1 pm

Join us in creating positive change through technology. Apply now to become a Volunteer Technology Helper at TechMate and help empower our community.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

This would be two hours a week, starting from mid-July, there may be some training at our office in Christchurch beforehand

Getting started:
The first step is to express your interest by filling out the form below. We will then put you in touch directly with the organisation for more information on the role and how to proceed.
