Support Hōhepa as a volunteer

Organisation:
Hohepa Canterbury
Location:
Somerfield
Category:
Social Support
Hours:
Working Hours

Mō mātou | About Hōhepa

Being at Hōhepa is different from the average; you become part of our community of people, staff, volunteers, and contractors who all have a common goal - helping people to reach their full potential and lead enriched and meaningful lives in a holistic, supportive environment. We are a community leader providing services and support for people living with an intellectual disability to live their best lives and find a valued place in our society. Inspired by Dr Rudolf Steiner’s principles of anthroposophy, we seek to understand each person and situation as unique, not a one size fits all philosophy.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role

Volunteering at Hōhepa is a commitment for the long term. This is in line with our value Connection, something that takes time and continuity, and helps the people we support to engage with the community around them.

Most volunteers visit a few hours a week, but this impact builds up when they are consistent and have full commitment. For this reason, we ask that you only apply to be a volunteer if you plan to do so for the long term, i.e. a minimum of 6 months.

Volunteer roles can be 1) supporting a LEAP Coordinator with an activity group; 2) supporting someone 1-1 while at LEAP or in their home; or 3) taking a person we support out in the community to do an activity of their choice.

To do this, you will be energetic, empathetic and able to work alongside people we support, supporting them to create a life of rich and diverse experiences while being able to read situations, problem solve and apply boundaries or offer space.

Mō koe | About You

Your aroha and approach is what really matters at Hōhepa. Volunteering does not require any qualifications in health and wellbeing. In fact, volunteers come from all sorts of backgrounds. We are looking for people whose enthusiasm and passion for helping others will make a real difference in people’s lives.

To thrive in a Volunteer role at Hōhepa you will be:

  • Self-motivated, energetic and flexible with a high level of initiative.
  • Team player - Work closely with Hōhepa staff, creating a great team environment.
  • A kind nature with a can-do attitude and willingness to learn and continue to develop your skills as a volunteer.
  • Committed to upholding the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in all aspects of your role.

Applicants will be progressed as they apply, so if this sounds like you, please apply now!
