The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora is an entire city block of stunning heritage buildings in central Ōtautahi Christchurch, filled with a vibrant array of arts organisations, events, museums, galleries and boutique retailers. An independent charitable trust, The Arts Centre has now restored and reopened over two-thirds of its heritage buildings after the 2010-2011 earthquakes. We are seeking keen volunteers to be our own (behind the scenes) site tour guides. If you are interested, please provide a paragraph about why you would like to be a tour guide here and a little bit about yourself. Please email to jennys@artscentre.org.nz and I will send a full role description and further details.
In-depth knowledge will be provided in training and the role is taking a small group of 2 to 10 people on a 90 minute tour. As you take people up the top of the Observatory Tower you must be of a reasonable fitness to climb the 4 flights of stairs and relatively relaxed about the height at the top of the tower outside. (you can stay in the door way and not walk around the balcony)
During the months, May to September guides are just on call and notified the night before if there are bookings. The tours are scheduled at 11am only Wednesday to Sunday. So no tours on Monday or Tuesday.
From September to end of April Guides are required to come in on their rostered days and tours are offered at 11am and 1pm. Ideally you would be rostered on twice a month for between 2 to 4 hours depending on tour bookings.
Do you have great communication skills, are friendly, reliable, and well-presented, and have a positive attitude? A good grasp of the English language is required. Knowledge of other languages would also be an advantage, as would experience in customer facing positions. Want to support and promote the Arts Centre to visitors.
Please talk with us for more information about the time commitments for this role.
