Electrical Officer for Ferrymead Tramway

To work with assistants to maintain the many interesting features of the tramway's heritage electrical operations onsite at 275 Bridle Path Road, Ferrymead, Christchurch.

Responsibilities include:

  • to maintain the overhead tram wires and operate overhead works vehicles.
  • To train assistants and supervise contractors working on the Tramway's electrical installations.
  • To help to safeguard security of the installations including switch board, transformer and rectifiers in the substation.
  • To oversee health and safety in the electrical area, and ensure electrical tools in use are in good repair.
  • To investigate and report on electrical incidents, and to monitor the Tramway's safety system.
  • To safeguard themselves by not working alone on tasks, and to become part of the enjoyable communal life of the Tramway Historical Society which operates the tramway.
Requirements:

This role requires a Qualified electrician.
Practical skills as of an experienced electrician, interested in heritage electrics.
Ability to work as a team member, and also to provide leadership as a supervisor.
A level of fitness to work at heights of overhead wires.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Minimum time 16 hours/week over Wednesday and Saturday.
