The Women’s Centre Christchurch is seeking individuals to serve on its Board.
The Women's Centre Inc. is a not-for-profit community organization that has been operating since 1986.
The Centre was initially established as a community link for the Women's Refuge and a place for women leaving the Refuge to obtain ongoing support and resources.
Since the mid-nineties, with The Refuge starting its own community support, the Centre's client base has expanded, with a wide range of women now accessing our services.
The main service we provide to women in our community is free counselling sessions for women struggling with their mental health or experiencing social issues.
Our primary source of income is grants and donations and we are almost fully staffed by volunteers.
Despite our limited resources, we provide around 4000 counselling sessions to women in Canterbury every year.
The Women’s Centre is integral to the community in the work it does to support women from all demographics to live their best lives. By offering free counselling services we are able to support women’s well-being and provide access to counselling for those women who otherwise may not be able to afford it.
Our vision and goal is a community of empowered women living their best lives.
We are seeking one or more Board members to join us. These are voluntary positions, and the time commitment is a one-hour Board meeting once a month, plus some involvement in strategic planning and execution and networking/promoting the Centre.
We are open to any and all applications. We are not necessarily looking for someone with governance expertise, but we do wish to complement the existing skill set on the Board. Someone with communications or marketing experience would be beneficial. Additionally, we encourage all genders to consider applying. Although most of our clients identify as women, we are an inclusive organization.
If you are interested, please contact our Board Chair for further information. Rachelhewetthr@gmail.com.
We are seeking women who are committed to supporting all women, who are enthusiastic and motivated to contribute to the Board meetings and subcommittees. Ideally an understanding of Board work and/or fundraising would be beneficial, however, if you are keen to learn then that is also welcomed.
Attendance at Monthly Board meetings, and a yearly AGM meeting. There may be the odd networking opportunity we need you to attend.
