If you're aged 18 or over, live in North Canterbury, and can commit to just one hour a week, you could help change a young life for the better — and have a lot of fun doing it. You’ll be professionally matched with a child (Little) aged 6–11 and meet weekly to enjoy simple, low-cost activities in your own community — from walking the dog or shooting hoops, baking, crafting or tinkering in the shed! It’s all about sharing time, building trust, and creating a positive, lasting friendship with a young person who needs a bit of extra support; "He's like my best friend. We do so much stuff together but I don't care what we do, I just like spending time with him. He's stopped playing chess with me now I can beat him, so we're working on the go-kart instead!" You’ll be supported every step of the way by our awesome Mentoring Coordinators, who provide full training, activity ideas, and regular check-ins to make sure your mentoring journey is a great one. You’ll also have the option to join our legendary match events — fun, free group outings where Bigs and Littles across the programme come together to try new things and make memories. From kayaking on the Kaiapoi River and climbing at Ninja Valley to creating art through paper collage, there’s something for everyone — no matter your age or ability. If you’ve got a little time and a big heart, this could be the most rewarding hour of your week. Apply now and start something BIG!
