Our Abbeyfield House in Hornby was completed in 2015, so most maintenance needs are minor. The role includes keeping an overview of upcoming maintenance and carrying out minor repairs or fixes, typical of any household. Major maintenance is contracted out. The focus of Abbeyfield is to maintain the independence and dignity of older people who can look after themselves but who no longer wish to live on their own or maintain their own household. We provide affordable living, meals and general support to our 12 residents, but no nursing or personal care. Abbeyfield is managed by a volunteer committee, helping keep rent affordable for residents. Abbeyfield Christchurch is a registered NZ charity.
Practical handyman skills, empathy for older people, ability to get along with others.
