At Handmade Studio our crafters (disabled people) create beautiful hand-woven woolen fabric on floor looms. This fabric is then turned into garments like coats, scarves and throws; all to be sold. With the offcuts from the garment making process, we also make soft toys, so nothing is wasted.
We have more recently expanded our programme offering to include a range of handcrafts e.g. sewing, embroidery, patchwork, knitting, crocheting. We are also looking for any new crafting opportunities.
We are looking for more help in our workroom to support our staff, current volunteers and where possible supporting our disabled people, and that could be just in the form of a conversation or helping with support. We are like family at Handmade Studio and we would love if you would like to join us on an ongoing basis.
Because we work with vulnerable people, we need to have our volunteers vetted through the New Zealand Police vetting system.
A willingness to work with people with disabilities.
Basic sewing skills or an ability in a particular handcraft.
Once a week would be preferable, but we are happy to accommodate the right person.
Studio hours are 9:00am - 3:30pm (3pm in winter), Tuesday to Friday.
