At Handmade Studio our Crafters, all people living with significant disabilities, create beautiful hand-woven woolen fabric on floor looms. This fabric is then turned into garments like coats, jackets and capes to be sold in our shop or in a number of outlets across the South Island. With the offcuts from the garment making process we also make soft toys so nothing is wasted.
We are looking for more help in our production process, as our space has grown and we have been able to support more weavers in the studio there has been an increase in fabric produced (generally 100% New Zealand Wool). To get a great sellable product (the revenue from sales supports Handmade Studio to help with some of our overhead costs and to run the programme for our disabled community) we are looking for dressmakers to help with the process.
Because we work with vulnerable people all volunteers will need to undergo the New Zealand Police Vetting process.
Flexible, we would love to have volunteers on an ongoing basis but also understand that time can be limited.
