Volunteer with us and become certified as an ESOL home tutor providing English language and settlement support for new migrants and former refugees. The training courses runs twice a year approximately 16 hours in course plus self-study. In 2025 training will be in February and May. Once trained, a commitment of one hour per week for six months is preferred. Lessons can take an hour or more to plan so total time a volunteer may need could be 2 or 3 hours a week. Volunteers will learn how to tutor their learner in the 4 key English skill areas of Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing, as well as how to build vocabulary.
Fluent English.
Good people skills, compassion and empathy. Intercultural communication skills.
Patience and understanding.
Previous teaching experience desirable but not essential
One hour per week for six months, as a minimum and up to a couple of hours for lesson planning per week
