Email us with a short paragraph as part of the referral about why you are interested in the role, what you are doing currently or if you have one, a CV is fine.
We are wanting to engage with people who are interested in the Arts Centre site and history along with being a sales assistant in the Arts Centre Shop. Rostered shifts are usually 10-1 and 1-4pm daily and we try to make sure there are always 2 people rostered on together. In particular hoping to hear from people who are free on weekend days and would like to make volunteering here a regular part of their week. We do have some opportunities coming up during the week days as well though.
Arts Centre Shop Volunteers will enrich the experience of visiting The Arts Centre by enhancing its image as a welcoming creative place. We are looking for volunteers that really enjoy engaging with the public, sharing information about the site and what you can see and do here as well as selling them items from the AC shop. There is no end of day settlement required for the POS.
The role would suit anyone who has an outgoing, confident personality, and enjoys chatting to everyone as visitors always appreciate advice about what to see and do here. Maps and training provided as well as ongoing support in all areas of the role.
We would prefer a minimum 6-month commitment if possible. It is not really the ideal role if you are in the process of looking for work or back to work experience. But we are happy to provide a reference if you have volunteer here for at least 3 months.
The Arts Centre Shop is located in the ground floor of the old Engineering buildings used by the Court Theatre prior to 2011. They were strengthened and restored in 2023. Facing Hereford Street with windows reaching high up it is a lovely light space in the middle of the site adjoining the new Artists studios.
A car park on site for your shift is available if needed. We also have secure bicycle parking.
If you love the old buildings and want to contribute to their ongoing upkeep and the public programmes we offer, this is a great way to support as all profits go back into helping fund these ongoing costs.
Upon receiving your referral, we will send the role description. Training will be as soon as possible.
Shop Volunteers should be personable, have a positive attitude, keen to make all visitors feel welcome, and must be confident and comfortable chatting to strangers of all ages and backgrounds. There maybe times working on your own but usually there is another volunteer so you will need to be punctual , organised and interested in all the activities going on within the Arts Centre.
Casual bases is available as needed but regular weekly shift is preferable. We would love our shop volunteers to make The Arts Centre an enjoyable regular part of their lives.
