A dementia diagnosis can be very isolating and mean that people are no longer able to get out and about in the community as easily. Dementia Canterbury Companion Volunteers help to combat this by bringing their community to them. Each volunteer is connected with a client who lives in a similar area of town and has similar interests. Volunteers and clients may choose to go walking together, visit a local café, watch a movie or just sit and chat. How you spend your time together is up to you. Volunteers are required to visit on a weekly or fortnightly basis. We are looking for people who are kind and caring, and who are comfortable spending time with someone who has memory loss.
