Volunteer Opportunities

Maintenance volunteer

Organisation:
Woolston Development Project Incorporated
Location:
Woolston
Category:
Trades & Maintenance
Hours:
Both/Flexible

After years of deferred maintenance, our property is finally getting the attention it deserves to upgrade it and fix long-term maintenance issues. We have paid for currently registered tradies to do the following already but there are quite a few tasks that don't necessarily require a paid tradie to do.

Done so far:

  • Replaced switchboard and lighting around the building.
  • Replaced security system

We currently need help with the following:

  • Urgent replacement of the women's' toilet floor manhole cover as the old one is chipboard and has swollen shut. We have the treated plywood; we just need someone to do the work. We had a volunteer available to do this but he's injured himself and won't be available for a while.
  • Helping remove the old furniture from the office and putting together the new furniture (flatpack from Warehouse Stationery) and putting it in.
  • Installing the new blinds for the office.
  • Assistance removing the old play equipment.
  • Assistance taking rubbish to the dump.
Requirements:
  • retired builder, plumber, engineer or very experienced DIYers required.
  • An understanding of the importance of doing things safely.
  • Must be willing to be police vetted as we have OSCAR (out of school care) programmes on site Monday - Friday and we have a strictly enforced Code of Conduct and Child Protection Policy.
  • Reliable, honest and friendly.
  • Helps if you have your own power tools.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

As needed. Some tasks, once done, won't have to be done again, but others may need future attention.

Getting started:
