Volunteer Coordinator - Outreach Service

We are looking for a kind and competent coordinator to grow our new Outreach Service.

Our Outreach Service provides practical and social support to people living with the debilitating illnesses ME/CFS and Long COVID. Outreach volunteers assist with a range of activities including: housework, gardening, social contact, dog walking, filling out forms.

Can you help us make a significant difference in the quality of life of people impacted by chronic illness?

Tasks include:

  • Maintaining a list of Outreach Volunteers in our CRM
  • Maintaining a list of Outreach Clients in our CRM
  • Recruiting Volunteers through Volunteer Canterbury, Student Volunteer Army, our website, volunteer expos, and other avenues.
  • Select and onboard Volunteers.
  • Supervise and mentor Volunteers.
  • Receive requests for the Outreach Service.
  • Refer Clients to other services when appropriate.
  • Allocate Volunteers to Clients.
  • Check in with Clients.

People with ME/CFS, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis /Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have a reduced level of functionality that means they cannot complete normal activities of daily living. An additional burden is that doing too much physically or mentally can trigger Post-Exertional Malaise – a worsening of symptoms that can last for days or more.

Requirements:

ESSENTIAL:

  • A qualification or experience relevant to the health, disability or social work sector.
  • Able to always exhibit and share the values of MECFS Canterbury:
    Compassion, Respect, Equity, Patient-centred, Collaboration.
  • Warm, non-judgmental, and calm manner.
  • Develops trusting and productive relationships.
  • A good level of English language skills and an ability to communicate clearly in writing and in-person.
  • Comfortable with computer systems
  • Good time management and organisational skills, and able to work without close supervision.
  • A full New Zealand Driver’s Licence.

PREFFERED:

  • Experience with contributing to a team.
  • An understanding of ME/CFS, or a similar chronic disabling condition, the impacts on quality of life, and associated disabilities.
  • An understanding of the impact of stigma and inadequate health, social and financial supports.

A Police background check is required for this role.

Time commitment:

Estimated at up to 6 hours per week.
Full support available from the Leadership Team.
