During the 2022 Omicron outbreak, we have been meeting regularly with a group which includes MSD, CDHB and CDEM, to identify (and then meet!) specific requirements for volunteers as part of the community response to Omicron. Volunteers we contacted as a result of this were often 'in action' within hours of our contact - here's a few preparing packs for those self-isolating at home. Thank you, thank you to everyone who played (and continues to play) a part in this response.
Between 4th and 10th April 2022, we celebrated Student Volunteer Week in New Zealand. At team of students from Rolleston College gave their time to work with NICU Cuddle Hearts, sewing small cotton fabric hearts. These are shared between mothers and babies in Neo-natal Intensive Care and are proven to have benefits for both!
On 22 February, the team from TourPlan spent the day at 0800 Hungry packing up and delivering food boxes to those in need across our community. The team report "We couldn’t have chosen a hotter day to do this physical work, but it was all done with laughter and enthusiasm (until the end when we were laughing hysterically with tiredness)!! It was definitely a great team bonding day and I’d really recommend it if you get the opportunity." Awesome mahi team!
On 15 February, 52 students from Lincoln University Future Leader Programme worked super hard in the Fungi Farm and Native Berms, removing weeds. Some of these students were returning from the second time! What a massive help for the team and a positive for the community.
On 8 February, our Board members came together for our first board meeting of 2022 - half attending online and half attending in person. In these interesting times for us all to be navigating we so appreciate these awesome people, volunteering their time and toiling away in the background to support our work and keep us on track 👍
