"The journey to wellness is one no child ever has to go through alone. No matter how short or long that journey may be, our Child Health services ensure Canterbury's children (tamariki) are supported, cared for and treasured every step of the way."
The Matatiki Hub inside Waipapa Christchurch Hospital is a purpose built play space for paediatric patients and their whanau to come together away from their hospital rooms and enjoy time, play, activities, and moments of fun in what is a stressful and often traumatic experience.
This is a newly created volunteering opportunity within Hato Hone St John and we are incredibly excited to bring you on the journey.
Our volunteers will be the enablers of play and will have the freedom to design and implement activities, facilitate the session and encourage patients and whanau to join in. Time for set up and tidy up is included within the shift hours
COVID-19 Vaccinations
In some hospitals, volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This means depending on your location, you may need to be fully vaccinated, including having or intending to receive a booster prior to commencement. Proof of COVID-19 vaccination may be requested as part of the recruitment process.
Currently it is a 4 hour shift on either a Saturday or Sunday (generally from 1-5pm). Depending on the size of our volunteer team, the commitment we ask of you could vary between a shift per month up to a shift per week. There are two volunteers on shift at any one time.
Due to the nature of these roles, we are only able to consider volunteers who are able to commit for a minimum of 12 months.
