On 12 August, we took part in the Lincoln University Student Expo, chatting to students about what's involved when you volunteer, and how you can give back to your community while gaining valuable skills - for life and your CV! It was great to see so many young people interested in volunteering and making a difference in this way. And, what a beautiful Spring day to top if off!
On 28 July, we held our annual Student Volunteering Expo in partnership with University of Canterbury to give students the opportunity to talk volunteering face-to-face with a range of organisations. As always, this event had a great turn out, the Undercroft was buzzing! Special shout out to Jessie, who volunteering to help us man our stall for the occasion. We met Jessie at a recent Employment Seminar for Refugees and Migrants hosted by St Barnabas Church. We were also joined by Kobe, a Hearing Dog who has recently joined the Vounteering Canterbury team, accompanying our Outreach Manager.
On 13 July, we were delighted to see the opening of the Fungi Farm, at Richmond Community Gardens. Many of our group volunteering teams have given time and effort to this community project, and it's wonderful to see all that come to fruition. What a positive contribution to the local community!
On 21 June we held our annual Volunteer Recognition Awards for 2021. What an inspiring bunch of individual and group volunteers! Special thanks to our fabulous entertainers from StarJam, Ethan Hawker and Amy Verdellen, and our inspiring guest Speaker, Wendy Thompson of Bellyful. And a huge congratulations to all award recipients - thank you for the exceptionally valuable role you play in making a difference in our community.
On 14 May a team of enthusiastic students from the St Andrew’s College Preparatory School were ‘buzzing’ from their time at Richmond Community Gardens… getting involved in the community is a great way for our young people to experience making a difference, being active citizens, leadership… all while having some fun! Thanks team STAC!!
